What are you site permissions? If you are not using anonymous, you will
have add or make an account for that site and allow it rights via IIS.
What are those right now? If your directory is somewhere else on a file
server make sure your designated account has the appropriate access, and
point your IIS settings to that folder. If you are in the default
location, don't forget to harden your site by renaming or deleting your
default.html/asp, and try not to use index.html/asp. Make a new
homepage and make sure it is in the proper directory. You can find many
articles on this matter and a lot of literature. Once you match up and
document your paths and permissions you should not see any more errors.

Subject: [MSUNAG] IIS6 initial setup problems

We have been having issues with IIS6 on Windows Server 2003. After
adding IIS to a Server 2003 machine, accessing any web pages on the
server from a browser generates this error:

"HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid
credentials."

After a lot of searching around, it appears that IIS6 is locked down out
of the box in some way. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

The 401.1 error seems to come when accessing any type of file, be it
html, asp, etc.

Thanks,

Matt
