1. The
3rd annual “Buy Fresh, Buy Local – Select Michigan Day”
September 13, 2007 at 9:30-2:00 p.m. kicks
off “Select Michigan Week,” We would like to invite you to celebrate
in Lansing on the Capitol lawn! There will be over 50 farmers with their
offerings as well as educational tables, including the C.S. Mott Group.
We all know how important buying and
eating local food is to our health, communities and economy, and now is the
time to be involved and spread the word. Come and join the fun and info at the
Capitol in Lansing.
Michigan Food & Farming Systems
(MIFFS) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture, along with the Michigan
Farmers Market Association and the Food Bank Council of Michigan, are
partnering to support the local food effort this month with special events
planned on Sept 13, including a farmers market on the Capitol lawn in Lansing.
Please join us in celebrating by bringing

2. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING-Regarding Pesticide Use
MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
PESTICIDE AND PLANT PEST MANAGEMENT DIVISION
The Michigan Department of Agriculture, Pesticide and Plant Pest Management
Division, will conduct a public meeting on Friday, September 21, 2007,
beginning at 1 p.m., at Constitution Hall, Conference Room, Atrium Level, 525
West Allegan Street Lansing, Michigan, 48909. The hearing will be held to
receive comments on proposed changes to the rules of Regulation No. 637
Pesticide Use. Written comments may be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on September
21, 2007, to the address below.

The proposed amendments to Regulation 637 are being promulgated to address
issues related to conflicts between the regulation and recent passage of
amendments to Act 451, Part 83, as amended, confusing verbiage, regulatory
requirement details and clarification for enforceability.
The rules [Rule Set 2006-078 AC] are published on the Michigan Government
website at

and in the September 1, 2007 issue of the Michigan Register. Copies of

Promulgation of these rules is pursuant to the authority conferred on the
Department of Agriculture by the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection
Act, 1994 PA 451, Part 83, as amended (MCL §324.8325 et seq.) These rules
are proposed to go into effect upon filing with the Secretary of State.
