David, I took a half-day seminar about virtualization and the instructor says with some reservations that running third party VMs on top of Windows is as "efficient" as running third party VMs on top of Linux. He went on to say that if you are using Microsoft as your Host OS, that puts you at the top of the virtualization offering from Microsoft. However, if you use VMware server, you are at an entry point in terms of virtualization offering and you can then upgrade to ESX as your environment gets bigger or you need additional flexibility. This can happen without drastic changes to your environment. Perhaps others can comment on that.
