Subject: How to track legislative activity on an issue of importance to
you

There are a number of options:

1) go to the Michigan Legislative Website and look at committee notices.

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(5xobg455plw0b3enamsbv2ai))/mileg.aspx?p
age=CommitteeMeetings

You may also use this web site to review the actual text of bills, read
bill analyses, see where a bill is in the legislative process (still in
committee? passed on chamber and now in the second? etc.).

To search by bill number, topic, sponsor, order of introduction, etc.:

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(5xobg455plw0b3enamsbv2ai))/mileg.aspx?p
age=Home

2) Contact the committee chair or clerk and ask to be put on a listserv
to receive committee notices. So for example, your interest areas are
largely agriculture and environmental issues, you would contact the
chairs of the

House Agriculture committee

House Great Lakes and Environment committee

Senate Agriculture committee

Senate Natural Resources and Enviromental Affairs

3) A private news service has a nice FREE area on its website: Gongwer
Michigan Report.

Go to its home page and look at "Public Services" and click on
"Schedules/Events." This is updated through out the week.

http://www.gongwer.com/

4) One final note: things change frequently and with very little notice
in Lansing. If you plan on driving to town for a committee hearing or
some other event, find some one (perhaps your own state rep, a bill
sponsor or committee clerk) and check in with them at the last minute
(by close of business the day before) to make sure your event hasn't
been cancelled or rescheduled.

I hope this helps.
