SENIOR NETWORK TECHNICIAN

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

 

Under the direction of the Network Services Manager, the Senior Network Technician is primarily responsible for:  monitoring and troubleshooting the telecommunications network, installation, maintenance and support of computer hardware and software primarily with Linux and Microsoft servers, and providing help desk support as needed by The Library Network (TLN) staff or library members.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.	Monitor the wide area network and telecommunication connections for TLN and all member libraries.
2.	Provide network support including router, firewall, and wireless network support for TLN and all member libraries.
3.	Provide end user help desk support as a backup to TLN helpdesk staff.
4.	Install, upgrade, maintain and support Linux and Microsoft servers.
5.	Perform network administrative tasks including email moves/adds/changes, listserv groups, router and firewall configuration updates.
6.	Perform daily, weekly, and monthly routine tasks including daily tape backup, maintaining the backup log, and daily checking of successful backups.
7.	Develop and maintain documentation for servers, routers, and firewalls.
8.	Research and test new technology that will benefit library members.
9.	Backup other staff as necessary.
10.	Perform other duties as assigned by Network Services Manager and/or the TLN Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1.	Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, technical certifications or equivalent work experience
2.	2 years of Linux Server support experience
3.	2 years of Microsoft server support experience
4.	Experience with TCP/IP networking protocols required
5.	Problem solving ability
6.	Excellent communication skills – verbal/written
7.	Excellent organizational skills
8.	Good interpersonal skills
9.	Detail oriented
10.	Works cooperatively with a team

 

Salary & Benefits

 

Salary Range:  $50,999 - $59,492
