The following message will go to Deans, Directors, and Chairs regarding the early change to Daylight Saving Time (DST) this year.  This is the heads-up that NAG requests.

________________________________________________

Daylight Saving Time (DST) arrives three weeks early this year,
and computer users and system administrators need to prepare for
this change.  Unless computers are updated to obey the new DST
rules, they won't "spring forward" next Sunday, March 11.  Some
experts warn that, while not on the scale of Y2K, the DST change
is likely to disrupt some business operations.

Operating systems and applications software MUST be updated.  It
is not sufficient to manually change the clock on March 11 as the
computer will still "spring forward" on April 1 under the old DST
rules.  Current operating systems with automatic updates enabled
may already have the necessary fix; manual patching is necessary
in other cases.

We advise that people pay special attention to appointments and
meetings that fall between March 11 and April 1.  It may also be
prudent to print your calendar before March 11, and double-check
appointment times on Monday, March 12.
