Just wanted to let you all know... Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

It appears the user did a system restore (and didn't tell me), which is
fine.  She's a good enough user to do that.  And now it's working well.

It was the iMac having the problem (Dual G5) not the iBook.  When she took
the iMac to another office it worked fine.  So we got her a new network
cable.  It worked for a day, then quit again.  We thought it might be a
wonky router port, but... Her laptop works just fine with it.

I believe she's using IMAP, but can't remember for sure.  But, at the
moment, it's working fine.
