The following message is going out to Deans, Directors, and Chairs. We also post such computing related messages to NAG as a heads-up. FYI, this phase of power upgrades includes a test of the capacity to switch from regular power to portable generators, should that be needed in case of emergency. /rich On Friday, October 6, Phase IV of electrical system upgrades in the Computer Center will take place. Many core computing and networking services will be unavailable starting at 6:00 P.M.; barring unforeseen problems, all core services will be restored by 11:00 P.M. We anticipate that basic network access (both on-campus and Internet connectivity) will remain online during this outage. The following services, however, will be unavailable: afs.msu.edu angel.msu.edu lon-capa.msu.edu magic.msu.edu mail.msu.edu For more information, including a more complete list of services that will be affected, see http://techbase.msu.edu/viewpathfinder.asp?id=7385. We anticipate additional work on Computer Center electrical systems in the coming months; further announcements will be forthcoming. As always, Academic Computing and Network Services (ACNS) will strive to schedule any necessary outages for dates and times that minimize impact on the university community. Please pass this information on to staff in your unit. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Tom Davis, Director Academic Computing and Network Services
