A TASTE OF HOPE

Celebrating Food, Community and Democracy in Action

April 4th 7:30 pm Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor

Frances Moore Lappé is coming full circle. The best-selling author of

15 books, including Diet for a Small Planet, gave her first public

speech at the University of Michigan in 1972. Now, along with daughter

Anna Lappé, she makes a return to Ann Arbor as a featured speaker at

the 35th Anniversary Celebration events of the People’s Food Coop,

April 2-4.

People’s Food Co-op will host internationally-acclaimed authors and

food activists Frances Moore Lappé and her daughter Anna Lappé as they

share recent work of their Small Planet Institute. A reception

featuring prepared and local foods will follow.

In 1971, Ms Lappé’s ground-breaking book Diet for a Small Planet

forever changed the way Americans thought about food and hunger. Three

million copies and 15 books later, Lappé continues to be on the cutting

edge of social change. Jane Goodall said of her recent book Hope’s

Edge, “Absolutely one of the most important books as we enter the 21st

century.”

The April 4 celebration will be the culmination of 3 days of events,

including the national book release of Anna Lappé’s new book, with

coauthor Bryant Terry Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen.
