Will faculty and staff still be able to go in person to pick up a PIN if
they lose their password?

I have sent forgetful folks down there in the past so they didn't have to
wait for it to arrive via snail mail. Or, does the web form now supply an
instant PIN?

Thanks;
Wendy

Subject: [MSUNAG] One-time PIN for faculty/staff NetID activation takes
effect January 24

On Tuesday, January 24, the process for activating MSU NetIDs will change
for members of the MSU community who are not students (i.e., faculty, staff,
and other affiliated people such as guest scholars).
As of that date, the PIN (Personal Information Number) used to
activate non-student accounts will be usable only once. Should the
NetID owner need to re-activate his or her account at a future time, he or
she will need to request a new PIN using this form:

https://netid.msu.edu/pinrequestinfo.html

This change will provide improved security for NetIDs associated with
faculty and staff. If after an account is activated PIN information
falls into the wrong hands due to loss or theft, it will not be possible for
another person to use the PIN to reset the password in an attempt to steal
the NetID

This change will NOT affect activation for MSU NetIDs associated with
students. Students who lose their passwords will be able to re-activate
accounts using their assigned access numbers.

The change will take place at 7:00 a.m. on January 24 and will require
netid.msu.edu services to be offline for a brief interval, probably only a
few minutes.

Information concerning the status of this change will be available at:
http://servicestatus.msu.edu .
