Welcome to the PCMag.com Security Watch Newsletter.
Every week we bring you an overview of the current viruses,
worms, and other threats and the information you need to
combat them.

Some Sony BMG music CDs have a hidden "rootkit" on them
to protect their music and compromise your computer. The top
10 virus list contains some real oldies. Apple reveals four
vulnerabilities in its QuickTime software and patches them.
And Symantec may have peaked in the security business with
the report of a huge quarterly loss.

For more on these threats, vulnerabilities and other issues, visit
the Watch.

IN THIS ISSUE:

* Top Threat: Sony DRM
* Top 10 Threats as Reported by Sophos for November 7, 2005
* Security Alerts and Updates
* Security Watch News Feed

============================================================

Top Threat: Sony DRM

What it does: Certain music CDs published by Sony BMG
Entertainment contain DRM protection requiring that the
user must install a proprietary music player in order to play
the songs. The player contains a rootkit as part of an effort
to conceal the DRM and prevent its removal.

See our Top Threat section for more on Sony's DRM music CDs.
