In order to play some Region 2 DVD's that I have, I have used a software called DVD region free. I didn't want to set my drive back and forth and use up the 5 times. I believe it cost me around $40 for this. I'm not sure if something like this could be considered for the tech carts, as it probably upsets the MPAA. I believe that once the 5 changes were used up you would need to send the drive back to get it reset again, and then according to this article, you have a total of 25 times. http://www.boingboing.net/2005/02/01/apple_restricting_dv.html -----Original Message----- From: MSU Network Administrators Group [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Peter J Murray Sent: Wednesday, July 27, 2005 12:22 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [MSUNAG] DVD region codes in tech classrooms A professor over here came across an interesting situation regarding DVD region coding in the tech carts. He taught a class in Wells hall (in the C section), and he wanted to show a DVD to his class. He put the DVD in and the computer told him that the DVD player in the computer was set for Region 3. He set it to Region 1, so he could play his DVD. The computer also told him that he had 3 region changes left. I know that you can only switch regions 5 times before the drive locks on to the last region. He said that there is a lot of language classes taught in Wells, and I can imagine that there might be some other region DVD discs that may want to be played on these carts. Just a heads up, please forward to the appropriate people.
