HIGHER EDUCATION -EXECUTIVE BUDGET BILL*

For State of Michigan Fiscal Year: October 1, 2005 – September 30, 2006

[* This is the proposed new language for the KCP Initiative portion of the Annual Higher Education Appropriations Act for the state fiscal year to begin October 1, 2005.]

Education

Goal:  Improve Student Achievement-

“The Martin Luther King-Cesar Chavez-Rosa Parks program, intended to increase minority participation in higher education, has been restructured into a competitive grant program to better focus on results. This $5.1 million restructured program will continue to encourage under-represented minority students to attend and complete college. Universities and colleges will have flexibility to select research-based models that will work best on their campuses. However, a college or university will be required to match state funds, and the program participants will be tracked over the course of their collegiate careers to evaluate the results of the spending.”
