No email clients or servers should be providing HELO/EHLO
as the MSU mail server IPs though.  I see quite a bit of
spam landing in my MSU inbox matching this criteria.

Ex:
Received: from [222.93.135.6] (helo=35.9.75.114) by sys14.mail.msu.edu with smtp

Filtering off of this is a pretty standard practice, and
shouldn't cause any problems.  Did you run into problems
with these rules?
