hi Ed,

Thanks for taking note of this.

Could you speculate on why the trusted senders feature isn't working for
me? I was very happy to figure out where these buttons were and added
several addresses using this method. But today, my Alice Hill Techletter
is again in my Spam folder. I just doublechecked and the From line
([log in to unmask]) matches what I have in the Trusted senders list.

I had played around with the blocked/trusted senders lists before, but
they didn't seem to work consistently. For instance, I had blocked
messages from the UK ProLife League, but they keep coming thru. I
thought maybe it was in the format that I added them, that is why I was
hoping to use the automated buttons.

I hate to bring this problem to your attention in this manner, but I
have made two attempts to report it thru [log in to unmask] and both went
unanswered.

While I have your attention, I will mention two other related issues.
The first is a lack of documentation on how to use the blocked senders.
And I mean really simple, step by step instructions. All of my faculty
here are above average, but I have heard faculty in some other units are
pretty dumb. A cookbook recipe on which sender field to use (From,
Reply-to, sender, ...?). Maybe it is easier to just have people use the
buttons, since you have to be on the web interface to add entries anyway.

Second, wildcard capability with these entries. For instance, I would
probably trust *@msu.edu . Way back in April, someone at the help desk
suggested I just use "@uklifeleague.com" to block all addresses, which I
tried and doesn't seem to work reliably.

I was surprised to find 600 messages in my spam folder over last
weekend. Typically I have been getting about 300. We just need better
tools to help deal with this plague. I quickly ran thru the 600 and
pulled out maybe 4 good messages (and had maybe 10 spam messages that
made it pass the filter). All in all, I'm very happy with the new mail
system.

thank you,
-John
