Russell is correct in saying that the kernighan mailbox is a throwaway one.
Here's a response I sent directly to Chris yesterday -- should've sent it to
the whole list:

Upgrade will copy your mailbox, folders, and aliases from Pilot to
mail.msu.edu, and set Pilot to forward all mail to mail.msu.edu. It will
also activate your account on mail.msu.edu. Kernighan will be untouched and
you will still be able to log in and use it. I've done quite a bit of
sending messages back and forth between kernighan and the new system.

Messages that you have stored on kernighan will get orphaned there. You'll
end up having to move them manually. What I did was, after upgrading, I set
up a separate kernighan IMAP account in my mail client and then copied my
messages from the kernighan folders elsewhere.

Eventually we'll scrub kernighan. We'll warn everyone before we do it.
It's at least a couple months down the road.
