The position in Bayfield is part of the Lake Superior work unit and has some unique responsibilities. Specifically, the Bayfield position is focused on commercial fishery management of WI waters of Lake Superior. This means that the successful applicant will be responsible for planning and coordinating onboard and dockside monitoring of the commercial fishing operations and taking the lead on associated reports. The position will be the primary contact for the state-licensed commercial fishers and assist with issuing permits, quota transfers, and daily reporting requirements. Additionally, this position will be a crew member on the R/V Hack Noyes and assist with the fishery-independent surveys. The position will also have the responsibility of collecting and aging the commercially important species (lake whitefish, cisco, bloater) to use to help develop management recommendations and update population models. As time and experience allow, the successful applicant will also assist with management evaluations and analyses pertaining to commercially-important species.
