PhD and MS Assistantships: Fish Ecology

Purdue University, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources

Description:

The Höök lab at Purdue University is seeking PhD and MS students to participate in new funded projects targeting Great Lakes fish ecology. Projects involve an integration of field sampling, laboratory studies, and quantitative analyses. Students will partner with state and federal agencies and collaborate with academic researchers. Selected individuals will enroll in Purdue University’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources (www.ag.purdue.edu/fnr<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/www.ag.purdue.edu/fnr__;!!HXCxUKc!zPM3BZLUzzGz7_NzaqdJVCaCy_MHNn3xkCYrqDWQkKX74-HRtQrWtP6yf4cIbDMO_oitgilKnhMoLob8AvUnww$>) in West Lafayette, IN.



Specific research topics include:



1.      Evaluating effects of ecosystem changes on early life dynamics of Lake Michigan fishes.

2.      Exploring trophic variation and connectivity among fishes in large lakes.

3.      Assessing fish reproductive utilization of restored reef habitat.





Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a BS/BA (MS is preferred, but not required for PhD position) in Biology, Ecology, Fisheries Science, or related field; GPA of 3.2 or greater.



Salary:

Assistantships include 12-month stipend, full tuition coverage, and insurance.



Start date:

Flexible (between April-Aug 2026).
