DUTIES:  This position will be responsible for a combination of activities including conducting Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 consultation, imperiled species recovery, and technical assistance for transportation and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will work closely with state and federal agency partners to develop collaborative, biologically sound, and partnership-driven approaches to meet our mission<https://www.fws.gov/about/mission-and-vision>.

We are seeking talented applicants with a firm grounding in biological sciences and strong skills in partnership-building, writing, and communication. Core competencies important to this position include problem solving, accountability, partnering, technical credibility, and oral and written communication.

DUTY LOCATION: Michigan ES Field Office (ESFO) in East Lansing. This position is telework-eligible, meaning the employee must physically report to the duty location on a regular basis.

The Michigan Ecological Services Field Office is a fantastic place to work with energetic, collaborative colleagues in Ecological Services as well as co-located biologists with the FWS’s Joint Venture Science Team, Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program, Science Applications, and regional coordinators for pollinator initiatives and landscape conservation efforts. The office is an easy commute from the surrounding area. Outdoor recreation opportunities are plentiful here in the heart of the Great Lakes region, both with state game areas and parks locally and opportunities to reach scenic Great Lakes shorelines, blue ribbon trout streams, national forests, national wildlife refuges, and extraordinary bird migration hotspots on a single day or weekend trip. The East Lansing area has excellent K-12 schools.  Nearby Michigan State University provides many opportunities for educational, sporting, and cultural events.
