This fellowship involves formulating communications messages and products in support of the GLFC’s mandate. The GLFC communicates with the media, interest groups, government agencies, the general public, and other audiences. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently, are essential. Course work in environmental science, communications or a related field is helpful.
The summer fellow will assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of a range of multimedia communication and outreach activities. Assignments will vary in scope and topic, and collectively, will strengthen the incumbent’s understanding of, and experience in, communications and environmental policy.
Specific assignments will include, but are not limited to:
* Attendance at outreach events on behalf of the GLFC. While at events, incumbent will engage with stakeholders and connect with like-minded organizations.
* Assistance expanding the GLFC’s multimedia library through photography and videography. Specific duties will include editing, categorizing, and uploading photos and videos to GLFC database.
* Assistance in the production of communications materials such as social media posts, newsletters, and fact sheets.
* Managing the Commission’s inventory of outreach materials.
The fellowship begins in early/mid-June and will last until early/mid-September (specific dates depending on applicant’s schedule). Work can be performed in a hybrid environment on a flexible schedule. Some travel and weekend work will be required. Compensation will be an hourly rate equivalent to a GS-5 (Detroit/Ann Arbor locality<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/salary-tables/pdf/2024/DET_h.pdf__;!!HXCxUKc!2v1f4xV8vfq6qH8faUo7d9FZvpp3DMqAD-_g5KY3J394YwGhXG_s6s_EPZXU33rKzLrtMWWGWSyCeJM$>).

The Great Lakes Fishery Commission is an international organization established by the United States and Canada through the 1954 Convention on Great Lakes Fisheries. The Commission has the responsibility to support fisheries research, control the invasive sea lamprey in the Great Lakes, and facilitate implementation of A Joint Strategic Plan for Management of Great Lakes Fisheries, a provincial, state, and tribal fisheries management agreement.
