Position Summary:
The Maerz Lab (http://www.maerzlab.com) at the University of Georgia is hiring one field research technician for projects focusing primarily on amphibian and plant responses to wetland restoration and Gopher frog landscape ecology and genetics. This position is complementary to a separate position offered through the Jones Center at Ichauway. Both technicians will work together with a team of graduate students and UGA and Jones Center staff.

The University of Georgia technician will be based in Athens, GA but will travel regularly to field sites including The Jones Center at Ichauway, Alapaha River WMA, and Ceylon WMA. The technician will also have opportunities to assist on studies related to salamander population responses to climate and forest management in western North Carolina, though this will be a small part of the technician’s responsibilities. The position will begin between January 9th and 16th, 2024, and will extend at least through June 15th, 2024, with the potential to extend through the end of July 2024. We are willing to consider applicants seeking to work less than 40 hours per week provided the applicant can work at least 20 hours per week between January and mid-May, is available for all field sampling dates, and can shift to full time by mid-May through the end of the position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

1) assisting with egg mass surveys for amphibians, 2) monitoring amphibians by dip net surveys, 3) identifying frog calls, 4) trapping terrestrial amphibians, 5) genetic sampling of amphibians 6) data entry and stewardship, and 7) assisting with a variety of additional field/lab activities, as directed.

Hourly pay is $15 per hour. Housing is not provided while working in Athens, but housing will be provided at field sites. University vehicles are provided for field work including travel to field sites.
