Job Summary
A full-time Aquatic Ecology Lab Manager position is open in the Alofs Lab<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/sites.google.com/umich.edu/alofs/__;!!HXCxUKc!07OXSyHivmEHw8B1E7BIxby3yg8S-kBaR4uWuKEziBZq0hO8qECtyAkBDrf60qYZ1PslZj2kKiUejtcLxUM$> at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS).  We study the effects of environmental change on freshwater fishes and how to manage and conserve aquatic ecosystems.
The Aquatic Ecology Lab Manager will provide a variety of technical lab support for the SEAS research facility and will oversee day-to-day lab operations.  The positions will require occasional night and weekend assignments. This individual will assist with evaluating lab methods, procedures, and techniques based on established goals and objectives aligning with the mission of the SEAS community. Successful candidates will have strong organization, detail, and communication skills and will be able to provide flexible learning environments. This is a student-facing position  and will require you to work well in a collaborative environment as a mentor to undergraduate students. Job Responsibilities
Conduct morphological studies of museum specimens
Manipulate and analyze data including digitizing historical survey data
Provide day-to-day coordination, supervision, training, and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate research assistants
Assist with for fish husbandry including occasional feeding and equipment maintenance
Conduct physiological and metabolic experiments with live fish
Conduct periodic field sampling in lakes and streams
Participate in writing, proof-reading, and editing standard operating protocols
Responsible for overseeing lab environmental health and safety and supply inventory as needed

Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in ecology, fisheries, environmental science or a related field
1+ years of research experience in environmental science including ecology, fisheries, physiology, conservation, or related field

Desired Qualifications
Completion of Master’s degree in ecology, fisheries, environmental science or a related field
Expertise in North American fish identification
Experience working with biological specimens in museum collections
Coursework or experience with statistics and modelling
Proficiency with the programing languages, R and/or Python and Github
Experience with fish husbandry, lab experiments, and/or field sampling methods

Additional Information
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Salary Range: $43,000-$45,000
