On a typical day, the successful candidate will find themselves at the helm of any of the following:

  * Conduct fisheries surveys on Lake Michigan using a variety of gear types (gill nets, seines, trawls, neuston nets, hydroacoustics equipment).
  * Collect, manage, and analyze biological data (sex, age, maturity, spawning condition, diet, health status) of harvested fish.
  * Participate in the development of methodology to estimate abundance, biomass, and population structure of stocked and wild, adult and juvenile cisco in Lake Michigan.
  * Assist the Fisheries Biologist in coordinating research design.
  * Participate in the design and implementation of experimental aquaculture research to develop gamete collection, fertilization, and rearing techniques for cisco.
  * Conduct habitat and fisheries assessments using hydroacoustic equipment.
  * Assist with the development of an annual trawling assessment targeting juvenile cisco and other forage fishes.
  * Analyze data, conduct statistical analyses on complex datasets, create publication quality figures and graphs.
  * Participate in preparation of reports and/or presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications.
  * Pursue possible funding opportunities and work in a team to prepare funding or grant proposals.
  * Maintain a high level of data and sample organization and implement pertinent QAQC practices
