Hi Everyone,
How are you?
Each year the local Folk Music society hosts a Community Singing Festival
at the end of January or beginning of February.
This year it is this coming weekend - January 30 & 31 - Friday and Saturday.
It is a fun program where popular folk music performers lead the audience
in singing many songs from the folk music tradition and some from pop
music. Booklets with words are passed out to everyone, so you do not
need to know everything. Just join in and enjoy the fun.
The event is held in the auditorium of the Hannah Community Center.
The Hannah Center is at: 819 N. Abbot Rd
Which is right where Burcham Dr meets Abbot Rd.
There is a web page with information at: http://www.singingfestival.com/
I have seen each of this year's performers, some many times.
They are all great folk music performers.
The tickets for students are very cheap -- just $5.00 each night.
There are also workshops on Saturday afternoon if you want to learn more
about some aspects of folk music. Those tickets are just $10.00 for
a wrist band that lets you walk in to any of the sessions and go from
one to another as you wish - although I have found that when I go in to one
it is interesting enough that I stay until it is done.
And at 11:00 am on Saturday there is a free Children's concert program.
It is led by Mark Dvorak who is just great. The kids love it.
Go early to get good seats. It fills up fast. You can get tickets at
the door starting at 7:00 pm (19:00).
