AIB Northeast Chapter Conference Doctoral Student Consortium
November 13th, 2014 – Providence, Rhode Island

The Academy of International Business Northeast Chapter is organizing a Doctoral Student Consortium as part of the annual AIB Northeast Chapter conference (http://conference2014.aibne.net). Doctoral Student Consortium will be held on Thursday, November 13th, 2014. The Consortium will provide an opportunity for doctoral students to discuss their research ideas, learn about international business research, and get insights on how to build a successful academic career. In addition, doctoral students will have a unique opportunity to network with some of the leading international business scholars.

The format of the Consortium will facilitate a constructive discussion among the doctoral students and the participating faculty on topics such as high-impact international business research, managing the dissertation stage, job search process, and successful entry into the academic career. In addition, students will receive feedback on their individual research projects as well as ideas and guidance regarding their future research.
T
he most suitable candidates for the Consortium are International Business and strategic management Ph.D. students who have completed their course work, are in the dissertation stage of their programs, and have a relatively clear idea about their dissertation research.

The faculty panel for the AIB NE 2014 Doctoral Student Consortium will include (name appears in alphabetical order):

Professor Allan Bird, Northeastern University, Darla and Frederick Brodsky Trustee Professor in Global Business.

Professor John Cantwell, Rutgers Business School, Distinguished Professor and Editor in Chief of Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS).

Professor Mike Kotabe, Temple University, Professor & Dorothy S. Washburn Chair and Editor in Chief of Journal of International Management (JIM)

Professor Sumit Kundu, Florida International University, Professor & James K. Batten Eminent Scholar Chair in International Business, AIB Vice President

Professor Ram Mudambi, Temple University, Professor and Perelman Senior Research Fellow. He served as an associate Editor of the Global Strategy Journal (GSJ) (2010-2013) and is an Area Editor at the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) (2013-2016), AIB Vice President.

Submission Requirements:

All materials have to be submitted by August 30th, 2014. Only full and on-time submissions will be considered.

Information to Be Submitted by Student:

E-mail your application in one file to Srdan Zdravkovic at [log in to unmask] Your application must include the following documents:

1. Up to 3-page, single-spaced abstract of the dissertation proposal. Please include a cover page with title, author contact information (address, email, and phone), up to 150-word abstract, up to 5 keywords, and stage at which dissertation is. Figures, tables, and references can be attached at the end of the document and do not count towards the 3-page limit. Please only include essential figures, tables, and references. Your paper should briefly cover theoretical background, the research question(s), research design, and intended contribution.
2. Your abbreviated resume (up to 3 pages long). Highlight your academic and other work experience. Include any publications and manuscripts under review.

Information to Be Submitted by Advisor:

Letter of nomination: The student's dissertation advisor should send a nomination letter to Srdan Zdravkovic at [log in to unmask] The letter should discuss the progress of the student in the doctoral program. It should state clearly whether the applicant has defended his/her dissertation proposal. If the student is enrolled in a doctoral program that does not have a formal proposal defense, the dissertation advisor's statement of approval of the proposal will suffice.
AIB NE Conference Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation Proposal .

All participants in the Doctoral Student Consortium are eligible for the AIB NE Conference Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation Proposal. There is no separate application process for this award. All completed applications to the Consortium are automatically entered into the competition. The selection is done by the faculty panel of the Doctoral Student Consortium and is based on the submitted dissertation proposal abstracts. The criteria used in evaluating the abstracts include: (a) originality and theoretical foundations of the work; (b) rigor and soundness of the proposed methodology; and (c) potential contribution and impact of the proposed work to advancing the field.

Tentative program will be uploaded on the website of AIBNE (http://aibne.net) by September 30, 2014.

HOTEL AND TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
The Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel will serve as the host hotel and conference venue. Bryant University has arranged an exceptional hotel room rate of $129 plus tax per night. Details regarding booking reservations will be provided to successful contributors along with their acceptance letters.

The Renaissance Providence is housed within the original exterior design commissioned by the Freemasons during the 1920s. Due to the Great Depression, construction of the Temple was never completed.

Providence, RI is an exuberant destination city with a national reputation for excellence in satisfying every artistic, culinary and historic palette.
