I am glad to inform the academic community that I have signed a Memorandum
of Agreement with Sage publications to launch the ‘South Asian Journal of HRM’
under my chief editorship. For over one fifth of the world's population, South
Asia is the home, making it the ‘most populous as well as the most densely
populated geographical region in the world’ and as such, SAJHRM is well
positioned to be an authoritative and scholarly source to report on and learn
about managing people in this region in an organizational context.
The inaugural issue is scheduled for June, 2014 and initially, the journal will
feature two issues per year, in June and December. The journal web site will be
up and ready to receive manuscripts in the next few months, once the
statutory approvals are obtained by the publisher. An Editorial Board of
Advisors, consisting of distinguished HR academics and practitioners, is
currently being constituted.
Aims & Scope of SAJHRM
SAJHRM is a peer-reviewed scholarly outlet for publications on HRM in and out
of South Asia. It includes countries that are members of the South Asian
Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), namely, Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In terms of
the discipline focus, all articles broadly focusing on the theory and practice of
managing human resources for the benefit of individuals, firms and community
at large will be acceptable.
In view of the contemporary focus on Strategic HRM, the journal coverage
would also include comparative research and other related management
disciplines as long as one of the key aims of the manuscript is on harnessing
the potential of human capital. Considering the uneven economic development
within the South Asian region, the journal encourages potential authors to
explore broader implications of their scholarly views and findings on the region
as a whole.
A distinguishing feature of the journal is its focus on “HR in Practice”. Apart
from theory, it will pay significant attention on how HRM is practiced in and out
of South Asia. The journal features conceptual and empirical research papers,
research notes, interviews, case studies and book reviews. In short, to be
considered for publication, a manuscript should broadly focus on managing
people in one or more South Asian countries at the firm, regional, national and
international levels.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified academics for
the following Associate Editorship positions:
•	Associate Editor – India (Two positions)
•	Associate Editor – Sri Lanka/Maldives/Nepal/ Bhutan
•	Associate Editor – Pakistan/ Afghanistan/ Bangladesh
•	Associate Editor – Book Reviews
The position description statement is attached. The due date to submit
expressions of interest is 10th June, 2013. Please share the announcement
within your network.
