I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I recently signed: "Autism Insurance at Michigan State University".

It is an important cause, especially for MSU family like mine that have a child/children that diagnosed with autism. Currently the medical treatment/ therapy expenses for autism is NOT covered under MSU standard healthcare plan that you and me have.
The State of Michigan has passed three public acts that established a mandate for insurance companies to provide insurance coverage for children with a medical diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (Asperger, PDD-NOS, or Autism). However these laws are not applicable to companies who are “self-insured” that are governed by federal laws. Knowing this, one of the three acts established a $15 million dollar insurance fund to reimburse self-funded insurance companies and encourage them to provide autism coverage. MSU is one of the “self-insured” company, who has the option to or not to adopt the coverage.
We are filling this petition to encourage MSU to adopt the insurance coverage so that the medical expenses for our autistic children can be reimbursed from the State fund (not MSU fund).
