Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year.
Probably you are all getting so used to this you recognize it right
away, but yet more Phishing attempts are going around. Phishing
attempts are are trying to get you to give the attacker some of your
personal and secret information - in this case your Email account
name and password. Those would be used to send out advertising
with your name as if it comes from you - usually advertising for
scams and illegal stuff.
This one may have several names and subject lines, but the one I
see today says something like:
Message From Msu Admin
Of course that is silly. MSU would never write it Msu, plus
the administration would not send out those kinds of technical messages.
In the body of the message it tells you that to fix a problem of
upgrading servers you need to go to a non-MSU site and send your id
and password and it emphasises getting the password entered correctly.
This is rediculous because your passwords are not kept in the open.
They are encripted so as to be unreadable and so could only be used
to break in to your account and not fix problems.
So, if you get any message like that, delete it and do not go to
any web address mentioned in it.
Good luck,
////jerry
