Fellow Academic Specialists:
I wish to announce the new roster for the Academic Specialist Advisory
Committee for the 2011-2012 academic year. The roster for next year, as
well as the current roster and past committee rosters, is viewable at
the Academic Specialist webpage at
http://academicspecialists.msu.edu/committee/members Congatulations to
the new committee members joining ASAC.
Annually, ASAC makes a recommendation to the Provost on salary
adjustments for the next fiscal year. To meet budgetary schedules, the
recommendation is due in spring, and the letter was recently submitted.
Please see
http://academicspecialists.msu.edu/committee/salary-recommendations to
access the letter that was delivered to Provost Wilcox. ASAC recommended
a 2% increase for the merit pool and 1% increase to the market
adjustment pool. This is the same recommendation that the University
Committee on Faculty Affairs requested to the administration.
Open enrollment is currently on-going. One significant change is the
contraction in the number of vendors that will handle MSU retirement
programs. There will not be any changes to retirement contributions by
MSU; however, there will be fewer firms that will handle the accounts.
Human Resources is conducting a number of forums on this topic at
various campus venues, and I encourage you to avail yourself to these
sessions to learn if your account may be affected. There is another
opportunity this Thursday, please see the next item.
The final meeting of ASAC for this academic cycle is Thursday, 21 April,
116H Erickson Hall
11:00 am. The agenda is viewable at
http://academicspecialists.msu.edu/committee/minutes Following the
business meeting, which typically lasts 45 minutes to no more than 1
hour, Renee Rivard and Dan Mackey from the Benefits Office will provide
a review up the upcoming changes in benefits and retirement programs.
All academic specialists are invited to the business meeting that begins
at 11:00 am and/or the benefits-retirement review beginning about 11:45
am. You may bring your lunch if desired. Perhaps I will see you there.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss any
issue relating to academic specialists at MSU.
Cordially,
Mike
