This is a follow up... First, thank you dak for the offer. Of course as
soon as I posted this things came up, the user was busy, and then...
Then something magical happened. It started working all on its
own. The user didn't twiddle with it, and I didn't have it. But one
day it started working.
More weirdly, a friend in Ohio had much the same problem with
his, and then it popped into life getting mail, too.
Oh well.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.
