This forwarding issue may cause significant problems to users in units
running their own mail servers. Many of these users forward some or all of
their messages to their unit's mail server.
The rollout date for the new mail service will exaserbate any problems
because many faculty and staff will be away on vacation from 12/22/2008
through 1/2/2009. Many users will not realize they have a problem until
they are away from the university. A significant portion of those affected
will struggle with e-mail issues over the Christmas holidays and unit IT
staff responsible for supporting e-mail may find themselves overwhelmed
when the university resumes business on Jan 5th.
Is the Computer Center planning on normal or beefed up ATS Help Desk
staffing levels from 12/22 to 12/24 to answer questions arising from the
e-mail service change? I just checked the Help Desk home page and I see
they are launching a new incident logging and workflow management system on
12/17/2008, just a few days before the mail changeover.
