The Epidemiology Department bought into Stata's Grad Plan licensing, which
allows any department at MSU to purchase individual copies (perpetual
license for that version) of Stata for department-owned machines for about
$160 (manuals cost extra). Linda Walters is the contact person. To make the
purchase with a credit card, you call Stata, tell them it's a purchase under
MSU's Grad Plan, and the materials are shipped within a few days to the
Epidemiology office, where you pick them up.
Stata is probably the most used statistics program in my department, ahead
of SPSS, but I don't know enough about them to compare them for you.
