I was a diehard, CLI/Unix e-mail user for 7 years. I switched to
Thunderbird, my first GUI e-mail client, at the beginning of this year
and use it extensively/exclusively. Hopefully that says something about it.
I've only run it on Linux thus far. I have multiple SSL-IMAP accounts
and newsgroups configured and found it to be secure, easy to configure
and use, and stable. I use server-side filtering to sort incoming mail
into separate mailboxes, but also use Thunderbird's filtering to
highlight "important" messages. Given our environment, having a
cross-platform e-mail client that works consistently across each is a
huge benefit. (i.e. I can now better help our Windows people with mail
problems, issues, etc.)
I shortly be testing the use of LDAP for the Address Book and possibly PGP.
