The GSA Abstract deadline is coming soon, so please consider these two sessions as outlets for your work:

Earth Systems Science. Complex Systems. Evolving Earth Systems. Think of the iterations and you can likely think of a pictorial, curricular, or instructional example. But when comparing them, are they really designed around the same elements? Do you feel as though you have something to say about the matter, but wish to learn more? If you wrestle with these questions but agree on the importance of the ideas they represent, we invite you to submit an abstract by August 11th to:

T73. Everyone Says They're Teaching Earth Systems, But What Does That Really Mean?
What does it mean to teach Earth systems science? This session includes a series of cases and strategies that have been used to build understandings of Earth as a system and of systems more broadly.

"In a world" where Earth science education should take priority, Earth science and particularly geology commonly takes a back seat to the other sciences – biology, chemistry, and physics in particular. In many school systems, Earth science courses are viewed as the ‘science for dummies’, and introductory undergraduate geology courses are called ‘rocks for jocks’. If this state of affairs, which seems so persistent, bothers you, consider submitting an abstract by August 11th to:

T88. The Future of Secondary and Undergraduate Geology and Earth Science

Despite robust secondary Earth science standards and improvements in introductory geology curricula, perceptual challenges remain from middle grades to undergraduate science, including perceived lack of rigor, college acceptance criteria, and confusion with other sciences. This session will pool the challenges and offer potential solutions.
