    An enthusiastic and highly motivated post-doctoral researcher is sought to join the lab of Dr. Timothy Greives ([log in to unmask]) in the Department of Biological Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU). This is a NSF funded position to study the relationship between reproductive hormones, daily behavioral rhythms and reproductive success in a wild Eurasian songbird (Parus major). The initial length of the contract will be for one year with the opportunity to renew for up to two additional years. This integrative project is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Michaela Hau at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology (Seewiesen, Germany). The post-doc will primarily reside in Fargo, ND, but will collaboratively conduct field research in Germany requiring extended stays of up to several months at a time. During this position, the post-doc will gain valuable experience in research design, avian field research techniques, endocrine and molecular techniques, international research experience, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. The post-doc is also encouraged to pursue independent lines of research related to this project. The start date is somewhat flexible, but ideally will begin around August 15, 2019.
    
    Minimum: Candidates must 1) have a Ph.D. degree in biological sciences or a related discipline from an accredited institution; 2) have a demonstrated interest in research in physiological or evolutionary ecology; and 3) have strong oral and written communication skills, including an ability to work as part of team and collaborate with others, 4) ability and desire to work both in the United States and abroad in Germany.
    
    Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated interest in 1) behavioral endocrinology; 2) biological rhythms; 3) evolutionary physiology and experience with: 4) avian field research 5) EIA hormone assays, 6) and automated behavioral monitoring, including automated telemetry and RFID monitoring, 7) and a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle.

    The Department: The post-doc would join a vibrant department with several other researchers with expertise in evolutionary physiology, behavioral ecology, phenology and organismal biology including: Drs. Britt Heidinger, Ned Dochtermann, Jill Hamilton, Julia Bowsher and Kendra Greenlee. The Department of Biological Sciences at NDSU has 19 tenured/tenure eligible faculty members and offers BA/BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees.  There are approximately 550 undergraduate and 55 graduate students enrolled in its programs.  Undergraduate degrees are offered in biological sciences and biological sciences education.  Graduate degrees are offered in biology, botany, and zoology; the department also participates in several interdisciplinary graduate programs, including Cellular and Molecular Biology, Environment and Conservation Sciences, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Natural Resources Management, and STEM Education. 
    
    The University: NDSU, a student-focused, land-grant, research university, was established in 1890 and currently has about 14,700 students. NDSU is classified as a very high research university by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, placing it in the nation’s top 108 private and public universities. NDSU is the first and only institution in North Dakota to receive the prestigious categorization. NDSU provides cultural and educational outreach to the residents of the state, region and beyond. 
    
    The Community: Fargo combines the friendliness of a small town with the cultural offerings of a large city. With a metro-area population of nearly 200,000, Fargo-Moorhead is the largest community between Minneapolis and Seattle. The city consistently appears on national lists of the best places to live and is noted for its health care, recreation, job opportunities and economic development. The community offers museums, movie theaters, shopping, concerts and sporting events at many venues. Bus service both around campus and in the community is free for NDSU students. An international airport and a commercial bus line serve Fargo-Moorhead.  Residents enjoy North Dakota’s four seasons, which allow for a wide variety of outdoor activities, from cross-country skiing to ice fishing in the winter to golfing, boating and outdoor live music events in the summer. Fargo Moorhead has 175 public parks covering more than 3,000 acres. The parks offer nearly 100 miles of trails for running, hiking, and biking, plus facilities for baseball, softball, swimming, tennis and hockey.
