Greetings and Happy Spring! (well we hope so anyways)
I would like to ask each of you who are farmers in transition, certified or considering to transition to organic to please answer these questions and email me the results. I am working with a team of researchers to seek support from the UADA Organic Transition Grant Program and would like to design our work based on your feedback.

Please if you can do so my this next weekend (Apr 10). Please just reply to me, Vicki Morrone ([log in to unmask])

Please answer these questions, should take 6 minutes tops- we are writing a grant to USDA Transition and seek your input to check we are on target with research and information needs we are proposing to do.

  1. Are you in transition (which year) or currently certified organic?
  2. What are the primary cash crops that you grow on your farm?
  3. What is your typical crop rotation? (this could be useful to include, but might not be so easy to answer...)
  4. Do you currently use, or have you used, cover crop mixes on any of your fields? (Note: a cover crop mix includes two or more different cover crops planted in the same field)
  5. What are the two main reasons you chose these mixes? (Note: what were the fields' needs, or your management goals, with the mix you selected?)
  6. Which cash crops do you typically follow with a cover crop mixture?
  7. Do you plan to continue using this mix or trying other mixes of cover crops on your fields?
  8. Would you be interested in working with researchers to test a cover crop mix on your fields?

thanks so much and I look forward to seeing your at upcoming events, program and farm tours. Please share your farm and agriculture education events with the Michigan Organic Listserv ([log in to unmask])
