Dear community members and friends,

Saturday September 13th, from 3 to 7 pm,  the Ford Resource Engagement Center (Mercado), Ford Motor Company Fund and Southwest Solutions celebrates Latino heritage with a free concert as part of our Celebrating Southwest Concert Series. It will be held on the plaza of the Ford Resource and Engagement Center, (Mercado), located at 2826 Bagley. This concert is FREE!!  Attached you will find  a promotional flyer as well additional information on the performers.

Armando Vega/Hector Montijo y la 313 orq

Armando Vega born and raised in Detroit MI of Puerto Rican heritage, is an upcoming star in the world of salsa. Armando Vega y Hector Montijo and the 313 Orq. will provide us a special treat with the first national performance of their new CD! Thus a couple of nationally known artists including Luis Disla, the record’s producer, will perform with Armando and Hector !

From a young age Armando always knew that music "lived" within him. Over the years Armando played with many local bands such as La Inspiracion, Grupo Salvaje, Edgard Leon, Orq Ritmo and others. In 1990 he met Hector Montijo from Bayamon Puerto Rico who as a composer, dancer, and percussionist also appreciated his roots in latin culture and music. Armando has traveled and performed with various artists such as TITO PUENTE JR, CHARLIE CRUZ ,ISMAEL MIRANDA ,CHOCO ORTA, ROBERTO TORRES, HECTOR TRICOCHE .  Now working on his first project Armando teamed up with Hector Montijo and they are known as Los Dinamicos De La Salsa. They invite you to come along and experience Armando Vega y Hector Montijo and the 313 orq!


BOCAFLOJA

Is a poet, Rap artist, scholar, cultural ambassador, and founder of the Quilomboarte collective. He has toured internationally throughout 15 countries and has become one of the most revered icons in the Spanish speaking Hip Hop community. In 2008 he published his first book ImaRginacion.  Race relations, decolonial narrative, and the African diaspora in Latin America studies are fundamental topics addressed in his body of work.  Bocafloja is recognized in Mexico as one of the first Hip Hop artists to explore alternative cultural forms to promote these discussions.

Alma Espaņola

Alma Espaņola, a Spanish dance company, features local talent from the metro-Detroit area. The company was founded by Victoria Lara, Lisa Montes and Mari Montes in 2003 while still principal dancers in the late Dame Maria del Carmen’s Grupo Espaņa.  Alma Espaņola, or “Spanish Soul,” is dedicated to preserving the traditional art forms as well as the more popular artistry form of Flamenco from Spain. Alma Espaņola performs nearly every facet of Spanish dance from regional and classical to Flamenco.
