The African American and African Studies Program Presents:
Research and Action in the New South Africa
Summer 2012
Through the African American and African Studies major, Research and Action in
the New South Africa provides
a unique international, service-learning, and research-intensive course
experience in South Africa.
Students will
be immersed in real life contexts where they will directly examine, explore and
engage the ‘African World
View’ in practice. The country provides a dynamic site for examining the
intersections of race, identity
and historical legacies that inform the country's current transcendent
political, cultural and economic structures.
Undergraduate students will conduct field research in South Africa
for participation at MSU’s-URAF.
They will learn about comparative race topics. They will immerse themselves in
South African cultures and
languages, and they will work with English teachers in rural community schools in
Mafikeng. Graduate students
will intern with higher educational partnerships in South Africa. In either Pretoria, Mafikeng or Soweto, interns
will work with South Africa’s
communities and institutions whose primary focus is to contribute to
important economic development and social justice policy.

"Rural Development in South Africa’s
Homelands" at The University of Northwest, Mafikeng
