Multicultural Business Programs celebrates 11 years of MSU students sharing
the stories of multicultural heroes with the final round of its Black
History Month Multicultural Heroes Hall of Fame Case Competition on
Wednesday, February 22, 2012, 6 PM, N100 Business College Complex.
Multicultural Business Programs and Altria Group Distribution Company
sponsor the competition and the afterglow reception. Audience members will
be eligible for over $300 in prizes during the competition.
Teams must consist of three MSU undergraduates. Each team selects a
multicultural hero and has 10 minutes to make their case about why he/she
should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The winning team is selected by a
panel of MSU faculty including Dr. Lee June, former Vice President of
Student Affairs and Services and Associate Provost for Academic Student
Services and Multicultural Issues, Paulette Granberry Russell, Senior
Advisor to the President for Diversity and Dean Stefanie Lenway, Eli Broad
College of Business and will receive a $1500 cash grand prize.
The 15 student teams representing a diverse cross-section of MSU students
from The Eli Broad College of Business, the College of Natural Science,
James Madison College, College of Arts and Letters, College of Agriculture
and Natural Resources and the Honors College are competing for spot in the
final round. They will be presenting the stories of heroes as diverse as
Alice Paul, the suffragist; Rigoberta Menchú Tum, a Guatemalan Indigenous
Peoples Activist; Dr. Charles Drew, who developed blood banks; Jackie
Robinson, the first African-American major league baseball player.
Since 2002 the Multicultural Heroes Case Competition has awarded over
$25,000 in prizes. Last year Jalen Garrett, accounting freshman: Cameron
Sullivan, accounting freshman; DeAngelo Taylor, marketing freshman won the
competition with a powerful presentation about Malcom X, the African
American Muslim Minister and human rights activist.
