Each summer, the Department of Romance and Classical Studies offers Intensive Intermediate Spanish Language Studies Program in Alcalá, Spain for student to complete the second year of Spanish language study (SPN 201 and 202).

Alcalá de Henares is a small city just 20 miles from the center of Madrid. It is the birthplace of author Miguel de Cervantes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The University was founded in 1499 and remains one of Spain’s leading academic institutions. There are many activities and places of cultural interest in Alcalá (including Spain’s leading classical theater festival in summer), and its proximity and easy access not only to Madrid but to other historic cities make it an ideal location for students.

Classes will be held at the Instituto Franklin, which occupies a seventeenth-century building that was formerly a monastery. Students will live with host families.
