Communication and Membership Coordinator for RMBO
Position Description: The Communication and Membership Coordinator for RMBO
will be responsible for developing stories and messages relating to RMBO's
mission using interviews with staff, board, volunteers, and partners; staff
generated scientific reports, manuscripts, and publications; and other
appropriate research tools. The coordinator, in coordination with senior
leadership, will identify key audiences and deploy content using appropriate
channels for each audience including potential donors, interested publics,
members, and conservation partners. Stories and messages will be deployed
using multiple media types including the RMBO website, bylined articles,
publications, newsletters, news releases, videotapes, and events. The
coordinator will also manage and update our membership database. The
Communication and Membership Coordinator will work closely with the
Executive Director and staff to develop and implement a marketing and
communication strategy for RMBO.
Qualifications: A strong communication background is critical with a degree
in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field. Masters
degree or public relations accreditation preferred. The candidate must have
a demonstrated ability to produce content on deadline and must have
demonstrated knowledge of strategies and tools for pitching stories to
print, broadcast and internet media. He or she should be proficient in
management of website content and must have application level knowledge of
Microsoft Office software including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and
Publisher. The candidate should also be able to use a photo editing program.
The candidate should be comfortable working with diverse audiences both
through written and oral communications. A working knowledge of birds,
biology, and/or nature would be helpful. Experience in grant writing and/or
fundraising is also desirable. The candidate must be able to multi task,
prioritize and have strong organization skills.
Job duties: The Coordinator will enhance RMBO's website content, develop
news releases, stories, ideas, and other communication tools to raise the
profile of RMBO with diverse audiences including potential donors, newspaper
readers and television viewers in RMBO's geographical area, members, and
conservation partners. In consultation with the Executive Director and
senior leadership, the coordinator will identify bird conservation topics to
be developed into stories that will influence actions that enhance bird
conservation. The coordinator will also be responsible for communicating
with our members including producing our quarterly newsletter and annual
report, managing our contacts database, and producing appeals, thank you
letters and membership renewals. The coordinator will also be responsible
for keeping our website current and managing RMBO events.
Salary: Will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time
