Small mammal distributions will be examined on two contrasting mountain systems in the Southern Rocky Mountains to test hypotheses related to the maintenance of biological diversity and to detect range shifts due to climate change. Duties include live-trapping small mammals, conducting visual transects, recording data, sampling of vegetation, seeds and insects. Successful applicants must be able to spend considerable time in remote field settings, camping, and hiking in a variety of weather conditions. Minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Desired dates of employment are approximately May 15 or June 1 to the end of August or early September 2010. Summer stipend will be approximately $5,100. Volunteer research opportunities are also available beyond these three paid positions.
