The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Sport Fish Division, is
recruiting for a permanent full time Fishery Biologist IV position in
Anchorage. This position serves as the Statewide Hydropower/Instream
Flow Coordinator to plan, supervise and coordinate hydropower and
instream flow projects for sustaining fish and wildlife resources. The
position will supervise, monitor and coordinate responses to the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on hydropower and hydrokinetic
projects statewide and also supervises staff that perform instream flow
projects and activities. The recruitment for this position closes on
April 27.
Key responsibilities include:
* Planning, supervising and coordinating fish and wildlife reviews
on existing and proposed FERC hydroelectric and hydrokinetic projects;
* Preparing scientifically-based responses to the FERC and other
State, Federal and local agencies to avoid/minimize potential impacts of
hydropower projects to fish and wildlife. Decisions and recommendations
are based on coordination with regional staff and synthesis of their
analyses and comments;
* Tracking the status of fishery resource reviews, issues and
deadlines for proposed and existing hydropower projects and operations
on an ongoing and timely basis;
* Making decisions regarding controversial proposals that might
negatively impact fishery production, fishing opportunities and access
to fishery resources;
* Supervising staff performing instream flow projects and
activities which may include filing for reservations of water, stream
gaging, analysis and review of instream flow and aquatic habitat
studies, and activities related to the Alaska Clean Waters Action
program;
* Supervises 3 other biologists.
