Content-Type: text/html Colleagues, I thought I'd forward this along as an "fyi" to the web development community. Take Care, Burt From: Swain, Heather [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, April 19, 2010 4:46 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [COMMUNICATORS] UCN minutes and other updates Dear colleagues, It was great to see so many of you at the April meeting, and again, thank you for such a great turnout at the Brand Summit. Attached are the minutes from our April 8 meeting. They will be posted to the Google group as well. Also, here are some updates regarding various questions and topics of discussion. 1) As promised, a word template for letterhead has now been posted to the UR site. You can use this to customize the electronic letterhead you keep in the office. If you do not have Myriad Pro, please substitute Arial. We've updated the language in the graphic standards to reflect the option to use Arial if Myriad Pro is unavailable. 2) Purchase of the two brand fonts-Californian and Gotham-is nearly finalized. I am still working with legal on the exact language of agreements that will need to be signed by campus users and by any outside agency or freelancer to whom a campus user provides the fonts as part of a project. 3) University Relations is developing a collection of Web resources for MSU Web designers and developers needing to update or create new Web sites with a visual design consistent with the redesigned msu.edu home page. These resources are scheduled for initial release in April-with additional guides, resources, and tools following throughout the summer. A description of the initial Web resources for April is included below. MSU Dreamweaver Template (scheduled for release April 23) The materials contained in this Web resource are intended for Michigan State University Web developers and designers building sites using Adobe Dreamweaver. The kit includes data files that will enable you to create a basic Web site with a design that is consistent with the look and feel of the msu.edu home page. This resource is appropriate for MSU units wanting to build small, informational Web sites. This resource is an update/replacement for the MSU Web Starter Kit. MSU Web Style Guide (scheduled for release April 30) [internal note - this is planned to be similar to this: http://www.upenn.edu/webguide/style_guide/] This style guide applies to official University Web pages. To ensure a unified Web presence, official pages of MSU should appear to be visually related in order to promote usability and reinforce MSU's brand identity. The style guide will include specifications for color, layout, typography, and overall interface design. A collection of use cases, additional layouts, and tools for advanced designers and developers will be included. Workshops and On-demand Web casts (release date tba) A collection of on-demand webcasts and workshops will be developed that demonstrate how to use the above tools, planning a site redesign, general best practices, search engine optimization, and more. Please direct any question about the Web templates to Mike VanPutten. Any other questions may be directed to Susan Holloway or to me. Best, Heather Heather C.
