I have a quick question to any Windows admins out there that
utilize group policy. Basically, do any of you have issues with users
complaining of slow boot times when working off campus? I know the reason
is that the computer is trying to ping the domain controllers so it can read
the policies, but I’ve set the firewalls to allow ICMP connections so the
pings should go through, and this used to work fine. Now in the last 1-2
months, this issue is appearing again. Does anyone know if there was a
change to the border firewalls that would disallow these pings that might cause
the machine to hang while applying GPO until it times out (about 10-15
minutes)?
If there isn’t an issue with the firewalls that would
keep this from having, can anyone point me at a solution? When this issue
originated it was because I was blocking ICMP, then I allowed that and the
issue cleared up. Now it’s back, but I haven’t changed
anything.
Thanks in advance!
