MSU Telecom Systems has deployed an Avaya Communication Manager as the
centrally-supported telephone system. We have also put in various VoIP
servers and gateways to support most SIP and H.323 applications. Our
deployment for SIP is completely vendor agnostic; we are actually
deploying X-Lite and eyeBeam from Counterpath software as our SIP
softphone client of choice. We are also investigating allowing users to
use the AIR iPhone (http://www.merhl.com/) on our switch too, pending
its final release and some negotiations with the developer.

Sounds good, I will keep an eye out. Do you have any preference on
switch preferred apps (avaya, Nortel, Rockwell etc...)

I know it is only a sub-point of your email, but VoIP applications like
Skype and Vonage are not supported on this campus from a policy or
technical standpoint. However, MSU Telecom Systems does support similar
services (MSUmobility), for MSU faculty and staff. Also, if you have
any suggestions for any Voice applications, please let me know - we are
always looking to develop our portfolio of useful products.

Hey jim,
Not to "get all confrontational" but, I am a literal person and Google
apps and online software TOOLS, is different than web email by the same
providers. So I went to the NETFILES site in one of the questions and
it is not really a software tool site either.
I am just curious as to the language meaning a very general sense of
online software tools. I.E. this computer I am using now is a tool to
compute, or my email account is a communication tool.
I am a new person in this community but I am trying to do my part to add
value to the peoples experience, volunteer when called upon, and help
improve the technical environment while I am here. So I would like to
see some other items that are specifically online software tools that
can be used in place of business apps like calanders, phone tools for
conferencing like skype, web programs that enumerate your local pc
shares to the host system being used and allows for file sharing via
said example with out challenge, and finally any on line to that offers
office features like word processing, spreadsheets and databases. These
are what I see as online software tools if I we are educating faculty
and staff on the cautions or compliance with the A.U.P.

Timo,
I do not work for ACNS, but if you look under 'Overview' you will see
"This article contains information gathered in a question and answer
format to address the guidelines for using on-line software tools such
as Google Apps, Gmail, Microsoft Office Live, or other applications.."
There is also reference to Yahoo and Hotmail later in the document. This
seems sufficient to me.

Does the group that runs this faq plan on adding any other examples
besides Google? You don't have to name them all, but at least put some
in there.
