Subject: MSU launches Kaltura MediaSpace Video Platform
On May 14, MSU launched the Kaltura MediaSpace cloud service for storage and
delivery of learning media and academic videos at http://mediaspace.msu.edu.
MediaSpace provides an easy way for MSU students, faculty, and staff to
publish video on the web.
MediaSpace accepts most common file formats and publishes media to a variety
of devices, like smartphones and tablets, without needing to provide
additional technical details. Videos can be shared via social media, link,
or embedded on a website. Additional benefits include meta-tagging for
better search capabilities and analytics to track how video is used.
Individual users will have 5GB of space with a two-year retention period.
IT Services plans to release added MediaSpace functionality this year,
including multiple file uploads and the ability for multiple people to
publish. Additionally, IT Services will release a tool by mid-summer for the
easy migration of existing MSU StoreMedia content to MediaSpace.
MediaSpace will run side-by-side with StoreMedia
(http://storemedia.vudat.msu.edu) until spring 2013 at which time new media
uploads will need to be made via MediaSpace. Access to media on StoreMedia
will continue until all content is fully moved to MediaSpace. Packages from
Adobe Presenter and Camtasia will continue to be supported by StoreMedia.
