Internship Positions
The Illinois Natural History Survey's Ridge Lake (Charleston, IL), Kaskaskia
(Sullivan, IL) and Sam Parr Biological Station (Kinmundy, IL) have
internship positions available over the summer, and year round. The three
stations are state funded research laboratories working in the areas of
aquatic ecology, fisheries management, and aquaculture. Current projects
include lake studies dealing with growth, recruitment, population ecology,
behavior, reproductive strategies, and management of largemouth bass,
muskellunge, and bluegill and river studies examining Asian carp populations
and sampling methods.
Positions are primarily in the summer but can be arranged throughout the
year. Potential responsibilities include assisting with field sampling,
laboratory experiments dealing with fish behavior, and data processing and
analysis. Specific responsibilities can be tailored to individual
interests.
Potential candidates should be working toward B.S. degree in Natural
Resources, Environmental Biology, Zoology, Fisheries, or closely related
fields. Individuals interested in continuing on towards M.S. degrees or in
eventually finding state or federal employment are particular encouraged to
apply. Internships are three-month duration and paid a monthly stipend of
$1000 a month with on-site housing provided if needed. These internships
can also be used to earn university credits.
