*Description of Fellowship*
An internship with Rare in the Conservation Research and Monitoring Program (CRM) Program offers an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and qualified individual who is broadly interested in monitoring effectiveness for an international conservation organization. The CRM program was recently created to enhance Rare’s ability to measure the impact of their social marketing campaigns
(“Pride”) on indicators associated with the organization’s Theory of Change. Although this program is relatively new, it offers a number of unique opportunities for the right individual to support cross-cutting department needs in designing high-level programmatic indicators that are tied to the success of campaigns on the ground.
Although the Conservation Fellows Program at Rare offers numerous opportunities and exposure to social marketing, partnership engagement, curriculum design, conservation planning, and monitoring effectiveness, the ultimate goal is for the intern to complete a project that is both applicable to Rare’s work as well as valuable for career development skills. The Conservation Fellow will work closely with the Director of CRM on the alignment and analysis of existing data related to impact
assessment. Currently, we are building a database that aligns quality
data from campaign social surveys for analysis. This database provides a unique opportunity to ensure that the data that has been collected in the past can be analyzed, and that data collected in the future meets appropriate standards. Although Rare has been collecting high quality data for most of their campaigns, the synthesis, alignment, and analysis
of this data have been limited. Specific objectives for this
internship include:
1. Review existing project plans and milestones for accuracy of reporting and input data
2. Work with CRM on meta-analysis and identify sampling issues as needed
3. Work with CRM to build a learning network on RarePlanet
4. Work with curriculum to identify areas of consistency/inconsistency in data reporting
5. Provide recommendations for future cohorts
Completing these objectives would allow the Conservation Fellow to have a significant and lasting contribution to CRM impact assessment as well as improving campaign implementation, with a number of potential reports or products including:
· A set of best practices around reporting survey, monitoring, and
analysis data
· Development of a research planning template that facilitates data
collection consistent with the database
· Recommendations for survey training and reporting
*Skills Needed*
· B BA in ecology, environmental science,
statistics, or other related field
·rofi Prociency in Excel
· U Understanding of the fundamental concepts in
research and monitoring
