ANTICIPATED VACANCY
DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will assist with research study design to assess
the status of the freshwater fishery and other aquatic resources of the
upper St. Johns River. Duties include but are not limited to: the
collection, maintenance and analysis of physical, chemical and biological
data of aquatic plants and freshwater fish and invertebrate species, the
creation and maintenance of databases, the preparations of reports from data
analysis for internal use and for peer-reviewed publications and
presentations. Must be able to interact and communicate effectively with
news media, conservation groups, other agencies and the public regarding
scientific subject matter and FWC policies.
REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's degree in one of the Physical or Life Sciences and one year of
related scientific research experience as described above. Those with work
experience or coursework in freshwater fisheries research are encouraged to
apply and may be given preference.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: the methods and techniques used in qualitative and
quantitative assessment of fish populations, the methods of scientific data
collection. Skill in: the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment,
the use of personal computers and various software programs, such as
Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, the safe operation of
watercraft, including launching and retrieval. Ability to: plan, organize
and coordinate work assignments, collect, record, analyze, manage and
archive scientific data, perform quantitative analysis of scientific data
employing appropriate statistical procedures, effectively communicate
scientific findings in written, verbal, and visual formats, work
independently out-of-doors, in isolated locations and in inclement weather
and maintain a valid driver's license.

This is an OPS position that does not provide Career Service benefits or
moving expenses. The rate of pay is non-negotiable.
WHAT IS OPS EMPLOYMENT? Other Personal Services (OPS) temporary employment
is an employer/employee relationship used solely for accomplishing short
term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees do not fill established positions
and may not be assigned the duties of any vacant authorized position. OPS
temporary employment is limited to 1,040 hours. Extensions beyond the 1,040
hour limit are based on position funding and agency need and must be
authorized by the Governor's Office of Policy and Budget.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Designs and implements data entry and retrieval interfaces for a web based
data application using C#, SQL Server 2008, and the .Net platform; Performs
maintenance on existing application functionality as needed; Prepares
printed and online technical documents; Participates in a cross divisional
application development team; Integrates work activities with those of the
FWC Office of Information Technology. The position will require 20-40 hrs/wk
and a flexible work schedule can be negotiated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have or be working towards a B.A./B.S. in a Biological Science,
Computer Science or the Information Systems field.
PREFERRED SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants who have technical expertise implementing systems using the
Microsoft.Net platform with an emphasis on C#, web services, ASP/ASPX, and
SQL server are encouraged to apply and may be given preference.
